There has already been a great deal of experimentation in an attempt to solve the problem of the enormous effort required to trim the sail - but without any fundamental improvement.

UB.Tech had the decisive idea:
Leverage has to be applied to the rope in order to tighten the sail. This idea was investigated systematically, paying attention to all the general conditions: weight, space required, technical input.
